Nodes can keep your library on the desktop. Besides your tree, there are four widgets: Library, Revisit, Graph and Tasks. Right-click the desktop, choose Edit Widgets, find Nodes in the list and drag the ones you want into place.
The four widgets
- Library - your library in counts, in small, medium and large. The small shows how many nodes you have, your tags and links, and the month you started. The medium splits your nodes into Markdown, PDF and images and adds your word count. The large also charts how many nodes each of the last twelve months added. Click it to open Home.
- Revisit - one node you haven't opened in a while, with the month you last opened it and its tags, and a different one each day. It comes in small and medium; the medium shows the node's first lines too, and another next to the heading moves on to the next one. Click it to open that node.
- Graph - a picture of your graph, with how many nodes and links it holds, in small, medium and large. The medium and large add LOOSE, the nodes with no links or tags yet, and MOST LINKED, the most links any one node has. Click it to open the graph view.
- Tasks - your open tasks, the same
- [ ]lines that gather on Home (see Reminders), with how many are open in all. The medium lists each task beside its node's name; the large groups them under their node. Click a task to open its node - you tick it off there.
How they stay current
The widgets never scan your library themselves. Nodes updates them when you open it, when you switch away from it and when you quit, and a few minutes after you add or remove nodes or tags. What you see on the desktop is your library as you last left it. Revisit is the one that moves on its own: it turns to its next node at midnight, even with Nodes closed.
The Graph widget shows the graph as it last settled. Nodes takes the picture when you open the graph view and the layout comes to rest, so until you've opened the graph once, the widget asks you to.
A widget that says open Nodes once hasn't had its first update yet. Open Nodes and it fills in.
